The Phillips Ambassadors scholarship program is open to qualified UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduates from all academic majors and was made possible through a generous gift from Carolina alumnus Earl N. "Phil" Phillips Jr. An entrepreneur and former U.S. ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean, Ambassador Phillips serves as Chair of the Phillips Ambassadors Advisory Board. His two children, Courtney Phillips Hyder and Jordan Phillips, both Carolina alumni, serve on the advisory board as well. The entire family recognizes study abroad as an important part of undergraduate studies and wants to make those opportunities available to students across campus.
The Phillips Ambassadors scholarship program is managed by the Carolina Asia Center in association with UNC's Study Abroad Office within the College of Arts and Sciences.
The Carolina Asia Center and the Study Abroad Office work closely with the Phillips Ambassadors Advisory Board to offer Ambassadors a broad range of academically challenging study abroad programs in Asia, and opportunities to share their experiences abroad within the Carolina community and their hometowns.
