How to Apply
UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduates in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who are accepted to a UNC-approved study abroad program in Asia are eligible to become a Phillips Ambassador. Graduating seniors are not eligible to apply. To get started, select a program from the list of qualifying programs and click on the link that will take you to that program's unique brochure page on the UNC Study Abroad website. There you will find an Apply button.
Clicking on this button will take you to your own application instruction and status page for that program. You will find instructions on how to complete the application process. Among those items is the scholarship application for the Phillips Ambassadors Program.
Applications for summer, fall and year-long programs open on December 1 and are typically due in early February. Applications for spring programs open on July 1 and are typically due in early September.
The Phillips Ambassadors Program is open to UNC Chapel Hill students across all majors who are applying for a university-approved study abroad academic program in Asia. Duke University undergraduates are eligible to apply to select summer programs.
Phillips Ambassadors are selected based on their high level of academic achievement and commitment to activities, service, and leadership. Strong communication skills and evidence of self-motivation are important. A clear understanding and articulation of how Asia and one’s study abroad experience fit into long-term goals are also taken into account.
Preference may be given to students who have not previously studied abroad in Asia and to students applying to programs that incorporate experiential learning and internship opportunities.
Selected Phillips Ambassadors applicants will be interviewed.
