Community Involvement and Environmental Stewardship

The Phillips Ambassadors Program requires each ambassador to share their Asia experience with their hometown or campus community upon return via a unique self-designed Give Back project. Returning ambassadors also volunteer at Study Abroad, UNC Global, and Kenan-Flagler Global Programs events to encourage other Carolina students to consider studying abroad.

Program staff are able to use UNC’s flexible Community Service Leave to participate in activities such as volunteering at the Carolina Community Garden, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, and tutoring elementary-age children at Read and Feed. Our director, Dori Brady, served on the UNC Employee Forum’s Community Service Committee to help organize campus-wide efforts including the annual UNC Children’s Hospital Toy Drive and Food for All Food Drive. Spot her in this Community Service Leave informational video.

Phillips Ambassadors has a longstanding relationship with Carolina Performing Arts (CPA.) We are honored to support CPA’s Student Ticket Angel Fund each year which allows access to transformative CPA arts experiences for all students. We also support the annual Duke-UNC China Leadership Summit which is one of the nation’s longest-running student-led conferences on U.S.-China relations.

Environmental stewardship is also important to Phillips Ambassadors. We strive to reduce our impact by sourcing items that are reusable or made from sustainable, biodegradable, and/or 100% recycled materials.
