Phillips Passport Initiative Apps Open 2/1 to 4/30

No passport? No problem! Visit go.unc.edu/PhillipsPassport for details.

The Phillips Passport Initiative now provides funding for all undergraduate students at UNC to obtain their first U.S. passport—no merit requirements, no GPA minimums—just a commitment to global exploration. While the initiative especially encourages first-year and new transfer students to apply, every UNC undergraduate is eligible. The mission of the initiative is to empower students to explore global experiences early in their time at Carolina. All students who apply will receive a passport and access to resources to help them explore a wide array of global opportunities, including studying, interning, service learning, and researching abroad

More than one-third of students receiving their passports with the support of the Phillips Passport Initiative have already gone on to study abroad in locations around the globe!

UNC Communications shared this story on how the initiative is transforming experiences for students: https://www.unc.edu/posts/2023/09/13/scholarship-opens-the-world-to-tar-heels/

Funding

$180 is awarded to cover the $165 U.S. passport fee and approximately $15 for passport photos.

Eligibility
